Quick summary: Car buyers in Columbus search for used cars far more than for any one brand: "used cars Columbus Ohio" gets about 1,900 searches a month in the United States, against about 250 for "Toyota dealer Columbus Ohio". In the map packs we captured, every listing was inside Columbus, and two of the six sat on Morse Road. Galli Local is based in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and works with Columbus dealers remotely.
We ran these searches signed out on October 6, 2026, from outside the city (Google placed us in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania). A buyer in Columbus will see results shaped by their own location.
Two things stand out:
The captured addresses fall in two groups. One listing in each pack was on Morse Road. Two of the three used car listings were on the west side, on West Broad Street and North Wilson Road.
That matters because Columbus covers 220 square miles, and I-270 circles it. Google ranks a store around its own address. A lot on Morse Road has a real distance advantage for a buyer on the north side and very little for one in Grove City. Pick the side of the outerbelt you can win, and scan that side first.
"Used cars Columbus Ohio" gets about 1,900 searches a month in the United States and "buy here pay here Columbus Ohio" about 1,600. "Car dealerships Columbus Ohio" gets about 350, "Toyota dealer Columbus Ohio" about 250, and the Honda and Ford versions about 150 each. Source: Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, United States, checked October 6, 2026.
Buy here pay here is nearly as large as the main used car search. An independent lot that offers in-house financing should say so on its profile and on a page of its own.
None appeared for the Columbus searches we ran, so a suburban dealer needs a page that earns the city-named search in the standard results.
Franklin County is not in Ohio's E-Check program, so service departments have no emissions search to chase. Service work is on our auto repair local SEO page.
Good fit:
Not a fit:
Large dealer groups with in-house marketing teams are not who this is built for. The Local SEO program needs a verified Google Business Profile at a real physical address, at least 10 reviews, and a 3.5-star or better rating.
Ohio's dealer advertising and fee rules are on the Ohio car dealership page. The method is on the national local SEO for car dealerships page, and other services are on the car dealership hub. General city notes are on the Columbus page. Compare the Cleveland and Cincinnati dealer pages.
Not easily in the map pack. On October 6, 2026, all six listings for the two Columbus searches we ran had Columbus addresses. A suburban store has a better chance in the standard results, with a page written for Columbus buyers.
It can, if it runs as a distinct department. Google's guidelines allow dealerships separate profiles for sales, service and parts, each with its own name and category.
No. Google retired free vehicle listings and removed the profile's vehicles feature in 2025. Paid vehicle ads through Merchant Center remain.
Yes, if you offer it. The search gets about 1,600 a month in the United States.
First map grid movement usually shows in 1 to 3 weeks, and top 3 positions on competitive terms take 30 to 90 days. Nobody can promise a position.
