What does Nevada's dental advertising regulation say?

Nevada Administrative Code 631.270 lists the kinds of advertising that are false or misleading. Two statutes add to it.

Five Nevada dental advertising rules from NAC 631.270 and NRS chapter 631
ProvisionWhat it saysWhere it shows up in SEO
NAC 631.270(1)(c)Guaranteeing that any service, treatment, or procedure will be painless"Pain-free dentistry" headlines
NAC 631.270(1)(e)An extravagant claim, aggrandizement of abilities, or self-laudatory statement calculated to attract patients"Las Vegas's best dentist", "world-class"
NAC 631.270(1)(g)A fictitious name, unless the name of each dentist as registered with the board is included in the advertisementBrand-name practices, every page and ad
NAC 631.270(1)(h)Implying a specialty unless the dentist is licensed in it and the specialty license number appears in the adSpecialist bios and service pages
NAC 631.270(2)A non-specialist may say "practice limited to" an area and must state they are not licensed as a specialistLimited-practice general dentists
NRS 631.3465No use of "clinic", "institute", or "referral services", or titles suggesting a public or semipublic activityPractice names and domains
NRS 631.348Claiming or inferring professional superiority over neighboring practitioners is unprofessional conductComparison claims

"Painless" and "best" are the two words to search for. Both are common on dental sites. The regulation names painless guarantees and self-laudatory statements. Replace "painless" with what you do for comfort, such as sedation options. Replace "best" with facts.

A brand name needs the dentists beside it. If the practice is called something other than the dentist's name, each dentist's registered name goes in the advertisement. On a website, put them in the header or footer so every page complies.

Check the practice name itself. The statute restricts "clinic" and "institute". If either word is in your name or domain, ask counsel before investing in the brand.

Review replies. In October 2019 the federal Office for Civil Rights announced a $10,000 settlement with a Dallas practice over patient information disclosed on social media. A reply must never confirm that the reviewer is a patient.

This is a summary, not legal advice. Read the current rule before you publish.

How do Nevada's dental markets differ?

Bar chart of monthly United States searches for dentist las vegas, dentist reno, dentist henderson nv

"Dentist las vegas" gets about 3,000 searches a month in the United States, "dentist reno" about 800, and "dentist henderson nv" about 600. Ahrefs rates the Reno term 55 out of 100 for difficulty and the other two 0.

  • Las Vegas Valley. The largest dental term of any city we have written about. Much of the valley is unincorporated, so name the area you serve: Summerlin, Spring Valley, the southwest.
  • Henderson. Homeowners who search by community name. An easy term with real volume.
  • Reno. The hardest of the three. New residents tied to the industrial employers east of Sparks need a dentist.

What should a Nevada practice check this month?

  1. Does the site say "painless" or "pain-free" as a promise?
  2. Does it call the practice the best, or compare it with others?
  3. Is each dentist's registered name on every page of a brand-name practice?
  4. Do specialty claims show the specialty license number?
  5. Do review replies avoid confirming anyone is a patient?

The Local SEO program starts at $850/mo per location. It needs a verified Google Business Profile at a real physical address, at least 10 reviews, and a rating of 3.5 stars or better. See the Local SEO services page and the packages page. For the state as a whole, see local SEO in Nevada.
