Local SEO for car dealerships in Spokane, WA
Quick summary: Spokane's dealer market is split between two cities. Part of it is in Spokane itself, and part runs along Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley, a separate city with its own map results. Idaho starts about 20 miles east, so a share of buyers will register the car under another state's tax rules. Where are the car dealers in Spokane?
The Journal of Business ran a January 2014 interview with a Spokane Valley dealer about the "Auto Row" branding effort along Sprague Avenue.
Our own search showed the split. For "toyota dealer spokane", Google returned two listings: one in Spokane Valley and one on West 3rd Avenue in downtown Spokane. A search with "Spokane" in it is answered from both cities, so a Valley store competes for the Spokane name and a downtown store competes with the Valley.

We ran three searches on October 6, 2026, signed out. Google placed the searcher in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, so these are results for someone searching from outside the area.

Spokane has fewer than a third of Seattle's residents, yet "used cars spokane" gets about 1,400 searches a month against Seattle's 1,300. Spokane is the shopping center for an Inland Northwest region that reaches into north Idaho, and buyers from small towns search the city by name before they drive in.
Spokane Valley is searched by name too. A Valley lot should put "Spokane Valley" in its page titles, and use "Spokane" where it describes who the store serves.
How should a Spokane dealer handle Idaho buyers?
The state line is about 20 miles east of Spokane, and Coeur d'Alene is beyond it. Two facts matter for your website:
- Washington's Department of Revenue says an additional motor vehicle sales tax of 0.5% applies to retail vehicle sales from January 1, 2026, on top of state and local sales tax.
- Idaho's State Tax Commission says a buyer does not owe Idaho use tax when another state's sales tax was correctly paid at a rate equal to or above Idaho's 6%.
Do not turn those into a promise about what an Idaho buyer will pay. Rules for vehicles sold to nonresidents have their own conditions. Write one page for Idaho buyers that says which paperwork you handle, and tell them to confirm the tax with their county. Check the current rule with both agencies before publishing. Which nearby places are separate markets?

- A Valley store that wants to hold "Spokane" searches, or a Spokane store losing ground to the Valley
Not a fit:
